| 2000 "Lovely succulent fruit" - Decanter – UK "Lovely succulent fruit coming through. Great quality of fruit. Very powerful ripe tannins, very firm." That is the commentary that accompanies the award and five stars given by Decanter to Château Mouton Rothschild 2000. (August 2005) "The quintessence of the Mouton style"- Carnets de dégustation Bettane et Desseauve - FRANCE French wine critics Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve, in their Carnets de Dégustation, give 10/10 to Château Mouton Rothschild 2000, noting the "demonstrative and brilliant association of opulence and structure, volume and depth, exuberant flavour and sheer class", concluding that "the 2000 vintage expresses the quintessence of the Mouton style". (October 28, 2005) "We are dealing with a giant" - La Revue du Vin de France - FRANCE This verdict on Château Mouton Rothschild 2000 after en primeur tastings is confirmed in an article in the September 2003 edition of La Revue du Vin de France, which underlines the wine's "monumental construction and extraordinary richness on the nose". The writer humorously mentions the unusual label, engraved directly in gold on the bottle and depicting the Golden Ram, the emblem of Château Mouton Rothschild, remarking that "for once, damp cellars will not damage the label!" (September 2003) "A truly great Mouton" - Hachette wine guide - FRANCE "This wine, a deep and luminous red, announces its character in a bouquet that is at once delicate and intense. Its complex range of aromas evolves from mocha and vanilla to lovely red fruit, plum and prune. The attack is surprisingly round and frank while the body, well-structured and beautifully fresh, still bears the mark of elegant oak, bringing spicy flavours." What more is there to add to these tasting notes for Château Mouton Rothschild 2000 in the 2004 edition of the Hachette wine guide except perhaps the writer's conclusion: "A truly great Mouton." (September 2003) 2000: phenomenal concentration and extract - The Wine Advocate – UNITED-STATES Writing in the Wine Advocate, Robert Parker describes Château Mouton Rothschild 2000 as follows: "Is this another 1986 in the making? (…) There is a lot going on, including phenomenal concentration and extract, and a huge nose of smoke, crème de cassis, truffles and new saddle leather. (…) A wine of enormous constitution and awesome power" (April 23, 2001). 5 stars for Mouton 2000 - Le Figaro - FRANCE Le Figaro, a leading French daily, has published a ranking of wines from the 2000 vintage drawn up by a panel of thirty wine experts. Clearly first growth quality - Financial Times – GREAT BRITAIN Château Mouton Rothschild 2000 is in the top 20 wines of 2000 selected by Jancis Robinson in her column in the Financial Times : "Clearly first growth quality on the nose, heavily shrouded in ambition. It hits the palate with as much subtlety as a karate kick with lots of neat, ripe, opulent fruit before a welter of tannins kick in. Muted and well-balanced relative to what has become typical for the right bank. Good length" (April 7-8, 2001). 2000: the best since 1986? - Carnets de Dégustation Bettane & Desseauve - FRANCE The journalists Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve, in their new "Carnets de Dégustation Bettane & Desseauve", give Mouton Rothschild 2000 a score of 10/10: "The wine shows a straight, compact, very dense texture supporting a voluptuously full body with incomparable class. The finish is very long and fresh. Combining typical hedonism with the upright and vigorous length of the finest Mouton vintages, we think it is the best Mouton since 1986" (April 2001). |
